Five Unique Orlando Experiences

Five Unique Orlando Experiences

Did you know you can learn glass-blowing in Orlando? And sample a beer spa. And try your hand at indoor sky-diving. And many more truly unique experiences. They are all part of an unexpected side to this amazing destination that has absolutely nothing to do with the theme parks (as good as they are).

We have been collecting a bunch of these offbeat and wacky opportunities to provide a look at something different in this part of Central Florida, and we think you’ll be surprised – if not amazed – at some of the original activities they offer.

It’s yet another string to Orlando’s bow, especially for those who are regular visitors to The City Beautiful and are looking for that “something different” experience, and we have put together a special blog on FIVE of these unique involvements.

beer Spa orlando

Beer Spa

Spas are nothing new on the Orlando scene, or in most modern cities these days. But how about a spa that specialises in beer relaxation? Could there even be such a thing? As it turns out, it is an idea born in Czechia in eastern Europe, and it has been imported to Orlando by a local couple who just happened to try one in Prague, and thought it was a great idea to add to the International Drive scene.

My Beer Spa is therefore a combination of relaxation and craft ales of various kinds. Or Relax, Sip, Soak, Repeat, as they put it. Here, they have crafted a concept that combines the traditional European soak (in beer-like suds, not actual beer!) with an upscale private spa experience. Whether you’re a seasoned spa connoisseur looking to broaden your horizons or a curious first-time visitor, their approachable atmosphere will leave you enthralled. Step into a meticulously curated room designed to embrace relaxation, sip a range of craft beers or try one of their wines or sangria. There’s something to suit every palate!

ifly orlando

iFly Orlando

This well-established attraction in the heart of International Drive is another eye-catching experience, offering the chance to ‘fly’ on a super-charged column of air that simulates the feeling of sky-diving. iFly Orlando is a challenge for all ages, a tricky-but-exhilarating opportunity to work your way up from novice to skilled flyer.

There are various packages you can buy for “air time” from two to 10 flights, and a skilled instructor works with you to get you up and running. Just be aware, it’s quite an addictive activity, and you may well leave wanting more! Best of all, there’s no fee just to go in and watch, and you might even catch a sky-diving team practising for their next jump, which is an eye-popping sight.

axe throwing orlando

Axe Throwing

For anyone who enjoyed the Lord of the Rings movies, and especially John Rhys-Davies as the axe-wielding Gimli the dwarf, prepare to indulge your own axe-throwing adventures at one of the fastest-growing activities in America. There are fully seven different centres offering this fun sport (a bit like darts, only with much bigger weapons!) in Orlando, and one of the most popular is Epic Axe Throwing just off I-Drive.

Here, you can learn from experienced coaches, who will guide you through the basics and help you perfect your aim, making sure everyone has a great time, no matter their skill level. The added benefit here is that the venue also offers a full bar set-up, so you can enjoy a beer or one of their speciality cocktails after your session to debate the various merits of your axe-throwing abilities!

rage room orlando

Rage Room Orlando

Have you ever felt like you need to smash a few things up to get some pent-up anger off your chest? If, so head straight to the Rage Room, just north of Universal Orlando. The basic idea here is actually called Impact Therapy, a safe and controlled environment where it is okay to smash and break things while not getting in trouble for it or having to clean up after yourself when you are done. Not only is it a great form of stress relief therapy, but it is also a super fun time!

Visitors are invited to visit solo or with friends and have a safety briefing before being let loose for 30 minutes with an array of smashing tools on the Rage Room’s unique array of very breakable and smashable items, from TVs and other domestic appliances to assorted glassware and crockery. Items can also include tables, chairs and computers, depending on the Room’s inventory, but a wide selection is assured. Safety equipment – glasses, welding shield and gloves – is provided, but closed toed shoes are essential, and you’ll want to wear older clothing. Then just get out there and smash things up!

glass orlando

Florida Glass House

If you’re looking for the next hobby, a touch of edutainment or just a night out with a difference, head for this hands-on experience just south of downtown Orlando. Florida Glass House focuses on an array of experiences in glass art that include glass workshops, date-nights, private lessons, private parties and corporate events. In addition to a flexible schedule for those wishing to blow glass, there are also “Make your own glass” art classes Thursday to Saturday, starting at 4.30pm. These glass-blowing classes are designed for up to four participants but larger groups are welcome.

You might have seen the TV programme Blown Away, highlighting an amazing variety of glass-blowing techniques and creations, and this is a real-life opportunity to try your hand at something similar, which many people also find quite therapeutic. The Glass House takes great pride in its creative work and also offers commissioned glass art work. If nothing else, it makes a great place to browse for an unusual gift or souvenir from The City Beautiful.
