Tree of Life
Celebrating the richness and diversity of life on Earth, the Tree of Life stands at the heart of Disney's Animal Kingdom and is the centrepiece of the park. At around 145 feet, the tree is an impressive sculpted structure rather than a real tree, with its trunk and sprawling roots designed to appear weathered and natural.
As you look closer, you’ll notice the extraordinary detail carved into the surface, with over 300 animals intricately etched into the bark, including mammals, birds, reptiles and extinct species. Some carvings are easy to spot, while others are cleverly hidden within the twists of the trunk and roots, making it well worth taking your time to look from different angles. The base of the tree spreads out into winding root formations, creating shaded pathways and viewpoints where you can admire the craftsmanship.
After dark, the Tree of Life transforms through a series of projection shows known as the Tree of Life Awakenings. Soft lighting and animated projections bring the carvings to life, with animals appearing to move across the trunk in beautifully themed sequences.
